Arsenal looking to strike deal for Brazilian centre-back

Arsenal are looking to strike a deal for 19-year old Brazilian centre-back Luis Benedetti.

The 19-year old, who currently plays for Palmeiras, is left-footed, and has attracted the attention of several major European clubs because of his size, defensive awareness and ball-playing ability.

The Gunners have already submitted a bid of around £9 million which was rejected by Palmeiras, but negotiations have continued with talks progressing and the two clubs exploring terms for a potential move.

Mikel Arteta has already given the green light for the move at the right price, with the acquisition of Benedetti seen as part of a wider strategy to bring in defensive depth and future talent.

The Brazilian transfer window closes on March 3rd, and Palmeiras would ideally like to source a replacement before they sanction his departure.

Although Arsenal are the club who have shown the most interest in Benedetti, Barcelona have also been monitoring his situation and could decide to make their own move.
