'Definitely...' - Journalist says Liverpool eyeing move to sign 'monster' CB alongside Jacquet

Liverpool are eyeing a new central defender this summer alongside Jeremy Jacquet, with Nottingham Forest star Murillo a player of interest, according to TEAMtalk.

The Reds have acted early ahead of the summer transfer window by sealing a £60m deal to sign Jacquet from Rennes six months early, beating off stiff competition from the likes of Chelsea for his signature to strengthen their defence.

But with Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez's futures at the club unclear, and Virgil Van Dijk set to turn 35 before the new campaign begins, Anfield chiefs are scouring the market for more opportunities to ensure they're not left short in that department again next season.

Liverpool Eyeing Murillo Deal

Murillo came into the Premier League with Forest in 2023 and has been a sensation ever since, racking up 102 appearances for the club in that time and earning a reputation for being a 'monster'.

Forest are currently battling against relegation, and sit three points above the relegation zone with 11 games of their season remaining, and it's understood that should they lose that battle then the Brazilian will be on the move away from the City Ground.

Liverpool have been mooted as a potential destination as they ramp up their search for new centre-back options, and TEAMtalk journalist Fraser Fletcher reports that the 23-year-old could potentially leave even if they avoid the drop.

"Liverpool are already looking at improvements to their squad for next season, and centre-back is an area they're going to want to strengthen," he said.

"Look out for Murillo at Nottingham Forest. If Forest go down, he will definitely move, but he could still move even if they stay up."

Murillo Would be Perfect for Liverpool

Having Premier League experience is always a bonus when big clubs are looking to bring a new player in, and Liverpool know that any deal for Murillo is likely to be a relatively expensive one.

But there is plenty of room for him to grow and improve at Anfield, while he would also be more than ready to step in and make an immediate impact as a regular starter should the manager so wish.

GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT what Murillo's strengths and weaknesses are, and how he would fit in at Liverpool, and this was its response:

Strengths

Comfortable on the ball with good carrying and passing skills.

Strong at clearances and defensive blocks.

Tactical anticipation and composure in build-up play.

Weaknesses

Not particularly dominant in aerial duels compared to Liverpool’s current CBs.

Defensive duels and physical presence below elite level.

Fit at Liverpool

Suits a possession-driven system and could develop under senior leaders.

Might need pairing with a physically dominant partner to cover aerial weaknesses.
