West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos has praised the impact of centre-back partner Axel Disasi since his arrival at the club.
The Frenchman joined on loan from Chelsea on Deadline Day, but he has already played a big role in the team’s revival over the past month. Speaking about his teammate, Mavropanos said:
“With the arrival of Axel, I think he’s a great player as well. He helps the team a lot. He wants to give the best for the team.”

“So, it’s just like the work that we do in training just comes into the games as well, and this helps us a lot.”
Disasi has performed well beyond expectations
Even some inside the club had questions about the decision to loan the 27-year-old because of his lack of match sharpness.
Many other suitors refused to take a risk on Disasi, who had not played a competitive game since April last year, before his switch to the London Stadium.
However, the centre-half has already managed to play three full 90 minutes in the Premier League across the space of a few weeks.
West Ham’s woeful defensive record
Most fans knew heading into the January transfer window that adding a centre-half was a top priority. The Irons had conceded 48 goals in 24 matches by the time that Disasi’s move was announced. That’s an average of two goals a match, which is relegation form.
Things have dramatically changed over the past three games, though, with two clean sheets and one goal conceded. If that trend continues for the remaining fixtures, you would put good money on Nuno Espirito Santo’s side getting out of trouble.
Disasi has clearly helped stabilise a really poor back four, and it is now hoped he can maintain this form until the end of the season.
