Liverpool’s season has been driven by structure and leadership under Arne Slot.

The team have relied on discipline in midfield and composure at the back to stay competitive.

That same focus on responsibility runs through the academy.

Young players are expected to grow into leaders, even when they are developing away from Anfield.

One of those prospects is gaining exactly that kind of experience in the Scottish Premiership.

The 22-year-old has played more than 2,000 minutes this season across 25 matches.

He has scored four goals and added three assists.

Luca Stephenson has operated mainly as a defensive or central midfielder, but he has also filled in on the right flank.

He has played as a right midfielder, right-back and wing-back when required.

He began at Sunderland before joining Liverpool in 2018 where he captained both the U18 and U21 sides.

A loan at Barrow in 2023/24 brought 34 senior appearances and hardened him physically.

He then moved to Dundee United, where he is now in his second spell.

Across both stints in Scotland, he has made nearly 60 appearances and scored seven goals.

This weekend brought another step forward.

Luca Stephenson captained Dundee United in their Scottish Premiership clash against Motherwell.

It was likely a one-game responsibility, but it was significant.

United fell to a 2-0 defeat.

Tawanda Maswanhise scored twice for the hosts.

The first came from a 37th-minute penalty after a VAR check.

The second arrived just after the restart from a deflected strike.

United tried to respond.

Stephenson got forward and later made a run in behind the defence. He clipped an effort just past the far post.

Motherwell controlled the game with confidence and are now within a point of third-placed Celtic.

United’s top-six hopes suffered a blow as they trail Falkirk by 12 points with five games before the split.

Stephenson wore the armband in a tough away fixture.

That experience will only strengthen him for the future.

If you want to know how well Luca Stephenson is thought of at Dundee United, the Liverpool loanee CAPTAINED the side today.
