There are fears that his 2025/26 season could be over.

The demands of modern football has put extra stress on the players bodies.

It is now becoming increasingly harder to stay fit for an entire campaign, as the volume of matches continues to increase and make an already tight footballing calendar, even tighter.

Because of this, we are seeing more and more players pull up with serious injuries.

Borussia Dortmund faced Bayern Munich yesterday and whilst their 3-2 defeat certainly put an end to their title charge, they suffered another disappointment on the night.

Former Liverpool midfielder Emre Can dropped to the floor clutching his knee and Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac is fearing the worst.

Via Kicker, the manager was speaking after the game to Sky Sports and he refused to rule out the possibility that the injury could be an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

“I don’t want to say too much, but the doctor doesn’t have a good feeling. The initial examination aren’t entirely positive.”

Kovac was then specifically asked about the possibility of it being an ACL tear, to which he replied: “It looks a bit like it. He heard something too.”

Emre Can had twisted his ankle in the 11th minute but reportedly decided to play through the pain. He went on to suffer a heavy challenge from Konrad Laimer and powered on through until he limped off the pitch in stoppage time at the end of the first half and was replaced by Bensebaini.

The former Red is also out of contract with the Bundesliga club this summer and so there is a possibility that he has played his last game in black and yellow.

There will be official confirmation to follow but it certainly isn’t looking positive for the German international who played for Liverpool 115 times between 2014 and 2018.
