BBC pundit Alan Shearer has warned West Ham they will need to “improve massively” to pick up points across a “tough run” of games over the coming weeks.
The Hammers lost 5-2 to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, and asked to give a verdict on the London club’s chances of staying up, Shearer said:
“That’s a tough run of fixtures, and they’re going to have to improve massively to get out of the trouble they are in.”

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have it all to do to avoid the drop with ten games remaining this season.
Who will West Ham face in their upcoming games?
The Irons take on Fulham at Craven Cottage this Wednesday. Marco Silva’s men are a pretty formidable outfit at home, having won 7, drawn 2 and lost 4 of their 13 games (before the Tottenham fixture).
In stark contrast, Nuno’s team have struggled on the road all season, having picked up just three wins in 14 matches.
After that fixture, they have an FA Cup tie against Brentford before hosting title contenders Manchester City at the London Stadium. Prior to the next international break, they also have a trip to 3rd place Aston Villa. Buy a retro West Ham shirt from 3Retro here
What are the current relegation odds?
Statisticians Opta have increased the probability of West Ham finishing in the bottom three following their defeat against Liverpool.
They now have a 72.12% chance of losing their top-flight status, while Nottingham Forest (22.76%) and Tottenham (4.03%) are much more likely to survive.
Of course, clubs (including West Ham) have beaten tougher odds to avoid relegation in the past, but they will need to start picking up points soon. Nuno was not entirely satisfied with his team’s performance at the weekend, but they will have to cut out the mistakes if they are to make inroads on those above them in the table.
