Djibril Cisse’s son scores on debut as Kieran Morrison nets another U21s brace

Liverpool U21s beat Tottenham U21s 4-2 on Sunday, with Djibril Cisse’s son, Prince Cisse, scoring on his debut and Kieran Morrison shining once again with a brace.

The Reds started the game three points and three places clear of Spurs, sitting sixth in the Premier League 2 table.

It was a proud day for 17-year-old Cisse – son of Djibril Cisse – who was handed his Liverpool U21s debut at the heart of the defence.

He has been used as a forward, right winger and right-back this season, but has now switched to centre-back.

Meanwhile, Calvin Ramsay and Trey Nyoni both started, and Joe Bradshaw came in after the permanent departure of Trent Kone-Doherty to Molde FK this week.

It wasn’t the start Cisse would have hoped for, though, with his shanked clearance on the line flying off James Wilson and into the net, giving Spurs the lead.

Liverpool were soon level through man-of-the-moment Morrison, who curled home with his left foot in the 25th minute, continuing his rich vein of form after also scoring two against Forest.

Liverpool enjoyed more of the ball and pushed to go in front before the break – Kyle Kelly’s goal-bound shot was blocked and Tommy Pilling fired wide on the volley.

Half time: Liverpool U21s 1-1 Tottenham U21s

The Reds continued to be the better team in the second half, with Nyoni missing a glorious chance with a header in front of goal.

Cisse then enjoyed a special moment on debut, just managing to squeeze a header over the line to put Liverpool 2-1 up before the hour mark.

The lead only lasted a matter of minutes, however, with Rob Page’s side carved open by Spurs and Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny finishing with aplomb.

Cisse was replaced midway through the second half – Nyoni had come off by then, too – and he could feel delighted with his efforts.

The game felt up for grabs in the closing exchanges, with Morrison producing some magical footwork down the right, almost creating a winner.

But it was Will Wright who ended up being the hero for Liverpool, showing great hold-up play before finishing low into the bottom corner.

Morrison then put the icing on the cake in stoppage time, bagging his second goal of the day and his 14th of the season. He has now equalled the most goals in a league season (12) for Liverpool’s reserves since records started in 2010.

The win takes the Reds into fourth place in Premier League 2 ahead of next Sunday’s visit of Wolves (2pm GMT), in a week that also sees the senior team play them twice.
