ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano named the New England Patriots a trade suitor for wide receiver A.J. Brown but added the asking price is too high.

The New England Patriots remain one of the top potential suitors for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown in the trade market this offseason. On Sunday, the Patriots were the first team ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentioned regarding Brown’s trade possibilities.

“The buzz around Brown isn’t dissipating,” Fowler wrote. “Multiple league executives have maintained that Philly will entertain moving him.

“New England feels like a logical destination.”

That was the good news. The bad part of ESPN’s Sunday update on the Eagles trading their top wideout was the asking price.

“Teams have contacted the Eagles about a potential Brown trade, but word is that Philly’s asking price remains too high,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote. “This lines up with what I heard about the Eagles’ stance: They’d be open to the right offer, but it would have to be a really good one.

“They don’t want to just get rid of Brown or need him off the team for any chemistry reasons.”

Eagles Trade Asking Price for WR A.J. Brown

With all the drama surrounding the Eagles WR1 last season, a divorce seemed possible. And if it came to that, NFL teams probably saw the receiver as a potential buy-low candidate in the trade market.

The Eagles, though, are approaching parting with Brown as something they don’t have to do. That will allow, at least for the time being, for Philadelphia to keep leverage on any negotiating team and the asking price high.

Fowler and Graziano didn’t specifically mention what the Eagles want to see in return for the wideout. Fowler, though, reported teams he talked to “believe a trade package including a second-round pick is his true trade value.”

Presumably, the Eagles are asking for more than that.

Brown has reached 1,000 receiving yards in six of his seven NFL seasons. He earned second-team All-Pro honors in each of his first three seasons with the Eagles from 2022-24.

The 2025 campaign was disappointment for Brown, though, as the Eagles offense couldn’t repeat its 2024 success under new offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo.

Brown finished last season with 78 catches, 1,003 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games.

The wideout will turn 29 years old in June. Brown signed a 3-year, $96 million extension in April 2024. With that deal, the receiver is under contract through the 2029 NFL season.

Why the Patriots Could be Pursuing Brown

Fowler and other pundits have speculated New England as a trade destination for Brown because of the Patriots’ desire to add another pass-catcher.

In a perfect world, the Patriots will upgrade their WR1. Stefon Diggs led New England in receiving last year, but reports during the NFL combine indicate the team has lost some confidence in Diggs as a WR1.

With Brown, the Patriots could pair Diggs with another elite outside pass-catcher. Or, New England could acquire Brown and then flip Diggs to another team.

Fowler speculated the Eagles could move Brown for another wideout in a trade with the New Orleans Saints or Denver Broncos. But Fowler didn’t mention a Brown-Diggs trade as a possibility.

Diggs will turn 33 years old in November. In 2025, he had 85 catches, 1,013 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

In the postseason against tougher defenses, Diggs struggled to make an impact. He averaged 27.5 yards per game in four playoff contests. Diggs also had just 7.9 yards per catch in the postseason.
