Two years ago, Green Bay Packers fans believed they were going to have a running back tandem of Josh Jacobs and Aaron Jones. After Green Bay signed Jacobs in free agency, fans were excited about the prospect of having both him and Jones, one of the most popular players on the roster, as the Packers’ top two running backs.
However, shortly after Jacobs’ signing was announced, Green Bay released Jones. He subsequently signed with the Minnesota Vikings and has spent the last two seasons there.
Now, it appears that his time in Minnesota has come to an end.

After two years with the Vikings, Jones was informed by the team that, barring a trade, he is going to be released at the start of the new league year:
Sources: Vikings have informed running back Aaron Jones and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave that, barring a trade, they will be released at the start of the league year this month.

In his first season with the Vikings, 2024, Jones had 1,138 rushing yards (a career high) and five rushing touchdowns. He also had 408 receiving yards and two more receiving touchdowns.
Last year, though, Jones was limited to just 12 games due to injury. He had 548 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Additionally, he had 199 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
The temptation for many Packers fans may be to, once again, envision a backfield with both Jacobs and Jones. However, if Green Bay is not willing to bring back Emanuel Wilson for $3.5 million, as appears to be the case, it is hard to imagine they would re-sign Jones for a figure higher than that.
