The NFL trade rumor mill is heating up ahead of the 2026 offseason, and one blockbuster idea has Cleveland Browns fans divided: former NFL general manager Mike Tannenbaum believes the Browns should trade superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett for a massive haul.
The move would change the landscape of two NFL franchises.

NFL Trade Proposal: Browns Could Send Myles Garrett to Lions for Jameson Williams + Two First-Round Picks
During a Friday segment on ESPN’s Get Up (February 27, 2026), Tannenbaum laid out the case:
“You need so many weapons, you have so many holes to fill. If I’m the Browns, I do this to start the massive rebuild.”
The proposal would send Garrett — who set the single-season NFL sack record with 23 sacks in 2025 — to Detroit, where he would pair with Aidan Hutchinson to form one of the most dominant edge-rushing duos in the league.
Myles Garrett’s Historic 2025 Season with the Browns
Garrett’s performance in 2025 was dominant:
23 sacks (single-season NFL record)
60 tackles
39 quarterback hits
33 tackles for loss
3 forced fumbles
Second career Defensive Player of the Year award
Despite his elite production, the Browns finished outside the playoffs, prompting Tannenbaum to argue Cleveland should capitalize on Garrett’s peak value to acquire draft capital and offensive help.
Why the Lions Would Be Interested in Myles Garrett
Detroit already boasts one of the league’s best young edge rushers in Aidan Hutchinson. Adding Garrett would create a nightmare pass-rush duo, potentially elevating the Lions’ defense to elite status.
Jameson Williams, a former first-round pick, has shown off his deep-threat ability and is coming off back to back 1,000 yard seasons with 14 touchdowns between the two years. He is still only 24 years old.

Browns’ Rebuild vs. Contention Debate
Pros for trading Garrett — Two first-round picks + a young WR could accelerate a full rebuild, especially if the Browns feel they’re not close to contending.
Cons — Losing the NFL’s best defensive player would severely weaken the defense and alienate fans who view Garrett as the face of the franchise.
The proposal has divided NFL fans:
Browns supporters: “Trade him and get draft capital — we’re not winning with this roster anyway.”
Others: “You don’t trade the best defensive player in football unless you’re tanking.”
No trade talks have been reported, and the Browns have not indicated they are shopping Garrett. However, with the NFL trade market always active, this idea from a respected former GM has gained significant traction.
