Packers WR Could Battle Seahawks Playmaker for Bills Deal

Romeo Doubs #87 of the Green Bay Packers catches a pass for a touchdown against Kaiir Elam #20 of the Dallas Cowboys during the second quarter.

During all of last season leading up to the new league year that begins on March 11, there’s been speculation that the Green Bay Packers would be moving on from one of their talented wide receivers.

The name that kept appearing atop those lists was Romeo Doubs, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent. While Green Bay could always implement the franchise tag on him, that would cost them $27.2 million.

That being said, all signs are pointing to Doubs hitting the market after four seasons with the Packers. And ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says he’s being linked to none other than the Buffalo Bills — that is, if one Super Bowl-winning receiver doesn’t sign first.

“Rival teams expect Buffalo to strongly address wide receiver in the coming weeks. And multiple league executives are linking Rashid Shaheed or Romeo Doubs to the Bills,” Fowler said.

Indianapolis Colts receiver Alec Pierce is reportedly out of Buffalo’s price range.

Bills Expected to Target Wide Receiver From Packers’ Romeo Doubs

While the Packers could miss Doubs, there’s enough talent at the position that it was beginning to become logjammed — especially with the team needing to utilize last year’s rookie Matthew Golden more.

That said, Doubs is expendable to Green Bay, but the Bills are in desperation mode when it comes to proven pass catchers.

They were hoping former second-round pick Keon Coleman would develop into their WR1, but he has yet to fully step into that role — in more ways than one.

Brandin Cooks and Gabe Davis will likewise be unrestricted free agents on March 11, leaving the cupboard fairly bare of proven production.

Doubs, meanwhile, is coming off a career-best season in yardage (724) and yards per catch (13.2), totaling 85 receptions and six touchdowns.

His apparent competition, Shaheed, scored just two touchdowns but showcased his dynamic skill set all over the field, racking up 756 scrimmage yards and playing an instrumental role in the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl run.

Cap Space Could Complicate Bills’ Decision on Romeo Doubs

As Fowler mentioned, the Bills will have to be smart with their spending this offseason, as their cap situation could present challenges. According to Spotrac, Buffalo ranks 23rd in the NFL in salary cap space, sitting $7.9 million over the cap.

That obviously will adjust as contracts are restructured or players are released. Nevertheless, Doubs will command WR2 money — which could still be workable for Buffalo.

Doubs’ current projected market value sits at $12 million annually on a four-year, $48 million deal. That would rank 29th among NFL receivers.

For comparison’s sake, based on similar age and statistical production, that would place Doubs, 25, behind Christian Kirk but ahead of Allen Lazard.

Kirk signed a four-year, $72 million deal averaging $18 million per season with the Jacksonville Jaguars before being traded to the Houston Texans on March 12, 2025.

However, the true comparison may come down to Shaheed’s potential asking price, if the Bills are truly weighing the two against one another.

Shaheed carries a projected $14.1 million average annual salary, commanding a projected three-year, $42.3 million deal.

That would be one fewer year than Doubs’ projection — but more money annually on a shorter contract.
