Chelsea were beaten by Arsenal today at the Emirates, and it won’t surprise anyone that the game was decided at set pieces.

The Gunners scored both of their goals from corners, including the very first one they took in the game. Chelsea also hit back when Reece James drifted a spot kick in which nicked off Piero Hincapie.

“Disappointing to walk away empty handed. When it was 1-1 in the second half we had a half chance to make it 2-1 and their goalie made a good save. They got a set piece down the other end and managed to score,” the captain said in quotes picked up by Sky Sports.

“This is football now in 2026. 90 per cent of goals are probably set pieces and they are probably one of the leaders in terms of goals for and defending them.

“[Arsenal] are difficult to stop. They scored two today. Disappointed.”

We heard before kick off that Chelsea had worked on their set pieces for the last two weeks. It seemed like they needed two more.

Liam Rosenior will be so frustrated to lose in such a predictable way. However, when referees are letting such a preposterous amount of grabbing and fouling go as they did today, there’s only so much a player or a coach can actually do.

In other news…

The Daily Telegraph’s Matt Law was as fuming as most Chelsea fans were after another red cards for the Blues.

Pedro Neto’s utterly stupid second yellow for a lunge was one of the most infuriating moments of the season so far.
