Michigan head coach Sherrone Moores is being investigated by the NCAA.
The downfall of former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore took another disturbing twist recently after one of his former assistant coaches, LaTroy Lewis, was fired by the Atlanta Falcons after Ann Arbor police announced they were investigating Lewis for an alleged rape when he worked for Moore in 2024.
The allegations came to light after a bombshell report from Darko State News’ Justin Spiro on X on Friday.
Spiro’s report states Moore allegedly pursued a sexual relationship with the woman who reached out to him to inform him she’d been raped by Lewis instead of reporting the incident to authorities.
Disturbing Allegations in Spiro’s Bombshell Report
Under the University of Michigan’s rules and Title IX rules, Moore not reporting the allegations against Lewis would have violated his position as a mandatory reporter.
“Moore dismissed the allegations, offered Lewis a raise, and proceeded to sexually harass the woman himself,” Spiro wrote. “The alleged victim, we’ll call her ‘Jane’, says Moore refused to report the assault after she had confided in him, violating his status as a mandatory reporter underTitle IX,and in violation of University of Michigan policy. In the weeks proceeding, Moore sent Jane a barrage of sexually graphic messages, commanding her to perform various sexual acts on him.”
Moore was fired by Michigan with cause on December 10 after the school discovered his affair with a female football staffer.
Later that same day, Moore was arrested on charges of felony home invasion, stalking and illegal entry charges after he went to the home of the female staffer he was accused of having an affair with.
Moore, who is married with 3 small children, signed a 5-year, $27.5 million contract with Michigan in 2024.
Legal Victory for Moore Followed by Setback
The accusations in Spiro’s report marked a setback for Moore just days after he scored a legal victory in his ongoing court case.
“Former Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore scored a legal victory Tuesday when a judge granted a request for a hearing to learn more about the investigation that led to criminal charges against him,” Fox News reporter Ryan Gaydos wrote. “(Moore) and his lawyer, Ellen Michaels, have sought to have the case dismissed. Judge J. Cedric Simpson, who is presiding, expressed concern that a police detective didn’t disclose Moore’s employer-employee relationship with the woman when a magistrate authorized a warrant for his arrest. Simpson described it as a ‘glaring omission.’ ”
Judge Simpson expanded on his thoughts about Moore’s legal predicament.
“Defendant’s due process may have been violated,” he said. “This was not solely this personal relationship. The magistrate should have been able to look at that.”
The hearing on due process is scheduled for March 11 to hear from police and witnesses.
Moore, a former University of Oklahoma offensive lineman, started at Michigan as an assistant coach under former head coach Jim Harbaugh in 2018. Moore was hired to replace Harbaugh following the Wolverines’ undefeated 2023 season and served as interim head coach for 4 games in 2023 while Harbaugh served a suspension — a year in which Michigan won its first national championship since 1997.
