Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has an extra reason to be excited going into the NFL offseason.

The Chicago Bears had an exciting 2025-26 season, and quarterback Caleb Williams was a significant part of that success.

The Bears finished as the No. 1 team in the NFC North with an 11-6 record, but they didn’t quite make it to the Super Bowl. Still, it was a more than impressive run for first-year head coach Ben Johnson and Williams.

Now, Williams has an extra reason to be thrilled going into the 2026-27 season in the Windy City. Just two seasons in, it’s becoming obvious that Williams is already on target to be one of the strongest quarterbacks in the history of the Chicago Bears franchise. Seeing what Johnson did with him just one season in is impressive, and it’s only going up from here.

Chicago Bears Quarterback Caleb Williams Coming Up on a Milestone

Williams, if he performs well next season, will become the third all-time for Chicago Bears in passing yards after this season.

According to NFL research, Williams stands as the ninth all-time for the Bears’ career passing yards at 7,483 yards. But, if he stays healthy and appears in all 17 games next season, and if Johnson continues to work his magic with the player, Williams could skyrocket to third.

“If Caleb Williams becomes the first Bear to throw for 4,000 yards and finishes above 4,084, he will surpass Jim Harbaugh and move into third all-time, after just three seasons,” Bill Zimmerman of Windy City Gridiron states in a Saturday, February 28 feature.

“Yes, we understand that the Chicago Bears have set a very low bar in terms of quarterback play over the last century,” he adds, “but seeing what Williams is doing shows how he is going to completely rewrite the Bears’ record book, and he’s going to do it in short order.”

Early Power Rankings Favor the Chicago Bears Going Into the 2026-27 Season

NFL analysts NFL analysts Gary Davenport, Kris Knox, Maurice Moton and Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report published very early power rankings on February 10, and they have the Bears ranked No. 7 in the NFL.

In the feature, Sobleski gave both Johnson and Williams props, saying that Johnson “proved to be the right hire as Chicago Bears head coach” and that the coach’s “presence helped Caleb Williams begin the trek toward realizing his potential as an elite quarterback.”

“Everything else from the 2025 season was gravy for the team,” Sobleski added. “Williams’ talent was on full display, particularly late in games. Considering the franchise has essentially been searching for a legitimate franchise quarterback since Sid Luckman retired in 1950—a stretch that is no exaggeration—Williams’ development became the driving force behind everything the organization did this past season and is already starting to be rewarded.”

Sobleski also said that William’s “creativity and playmaking ability shone brightly,” adding that Chicago is “now a real contender after winning the NFC North, and they have the potential to get even better.”

So, the Chicago Bears are getting respected in and outside of the NFL, and that includes their rising quarterback, Williams. The new season can’t get here soon enough.
