Aaron Rodgers-Vikings Rumors See Significant Update

Aaron Rodgers hasn’t yet confirmed his plans to play in the upcoming season.

Per Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy had “productive” conversations with Rodgers about returning for another season with the team. Rodgers is expected to give Pittsburgh an answer by the start of the league year on March 11.

In the meantime, Rodgers has been connected to other quarterback-needy teams.

During the week of the Super Bowl in February, Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones tried to recruit his former Green Bay Packers teammate to play with him in 2026.

"I like him in Minnesota,” Jones said on the “Nightcap” show. "That’s my dog. What he brings to a locker room, that leadership, it’s a standard. If you ain’t in your playbook, oh, you ain’t seeing the field–he’s going to test you.

“He’s going to throw some signals out there, and he's going to see if you really care about it. As a player, I love that because I’m in my books. I’m making an effort. Like, I came from Utah from nothing. Like, so I had to earn that. And when you do it the right way, and it’s noticed, it’s refreshing."

However, it appears unlikely the two will reunite in Minnesota.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Vikings told Jones that he will be released before the start of the league year unless they can find a trade partner for the veteran running back. The release will save Minnesota $7.75 million against the cap.

“Sources: Vikings have informed running back Aaron Jones and defensive tackle Javon Hargrave that, barring a trade, they will be released at the start of the league year this month,” Schefter posted on X. “Jones' release will save the Vikings $7.75 million against the cap, Hargrave's $10.9 million.”

It’ll be interesting to see if Jones remains in contact with Rodgers. It’s possible the two could pair up with another team.

Per Over the Cap, Minnesota is in the red by over $45.5 million. The Vikings have to clear that amount before the start of free agency.

Per multiple reports, Minnesota wants to add a veteran quarterback this offseason to give J.J. McCarthy competition for the starting job in the fall.

Jones would have been a draw for Rodgers in Minnesota, who prefers to play with teammates he’s familiar with.
