Spurs boss says opponent ‘cheated’ as crisis continues, Arsenal extend lead, Sesko scores again

New Tottenham Hotspur managed Igor Tudor hasn’t got a win yet but he has managed to make a splash since arriving in England after he said Fulham’s Raul Jimenez “cheated” during the teams’ Premier League clash on Monday morning AEDT.

Fulham’s Harry Wilson scored the opener in the seventh minute but there appeared to be a push from Jimenez on Spurs defender Radu Dragusin in the lead-up.

VAR had a look but the referee stuck with his original decision, and the goal stood, much to the ire of Tottenham’s players and their coach in particular, who was especially aggrieved given a similar decision went against them in last week’s North London Derby against Arsenal.

“Of course it was a foul,” Tudor said after the match. “I think 99 out of 100 people said it was a foul. It’s so obvious.

“Sometimes the criteria don’t have consistency. Last week we had the same thing against Arsenal. It was the same situation before. We conceded the goal. They didn’t get the foul after they gave it – so, incredible.”

“… he (Jimenez) was not thinking about the ball. He was thinking of how to cheat.

“So he cheated, the player was pushing, and they scored the goal. So it’s a logic. It’s cheating.”

Why Fulham’s first goal was given, according to @PLMatchCentre:

“Deemed the contact by Jiménez on Drăgușin did not meet the threshold for a foul.”

Alex Iwobi scored via a fantastic strike to make it 2-0 before half time, and while Richarlison pulled a goal back for Tottenham, the final result was 2-1 win to Fulham, making it four losses in a row for Spurs.

They remain in 16th place on the Premier League ladder, still just four points above the relegation zone.

What they would give to be where there opponents in last year’s Europa League final, Manchester United, are now.

The Red Devils are yet to taste defeat since Michael Carrick was appointed coach on an interim basis six weeks ago, and are now in third place on the ladder after beating Crystal Palace 2-1.

Palace took an early lead through Maxence Lacroix before goals from Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko saw United claim victory.

It wasn’t without controversy though, with Fernandes scoring from the penalty spot after Lacroix was shown red for grabbing at Matheus Cunha. The foul appeared to start outside the box but the penalty stood, before Sesko scored for the third game running.

“There are a few different situations to judge but it still feels like it’s the wrong decision,” Glasner said of the penalty decision.

“It’s not a penalty, maybe a red card for a foul outside the box. But the foul starts outside the box. It’s maybe a little bit the Old Trafford bonus.”

Meanwhile Arsenal temporarily stretched their lead at the top of the Premier League ladder back out to five points after beating Chelsea 2-1 this morning.

True to form, both of the Gunners’ goals came from corners as Mikel Arteta’s side ground their way to an important victory. But a win’s a win, and it puts the pressure back on second-placed Manchester City, who play Nottingham Forest on Thursday morning.

Across the border in Scotland it was the Old Firm derby between Rangers and Celtic late on Sunday night AEDT.

Scotland’s ‘big two’ played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with Celtic coming back from two goals down to secure a point, which ultimately helped ladder-leaders Hearts more than it did either of the two teams in action.
