Makai Lemon getting a bad rap from scout at NFL Combine

The NFL scouting combine rarely lacks for drama, and this year Makai Lemon found himself at the center of it.

The former USC Trojans star wide receiver was making the usual media rounds when a clip of his availability began circulating on social media. The attention he caught had little to do with his answers and more to do with what some online critics labeled his “stage presence.”

But the chatter escalated when former NFL defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko posted on X that a scout questioned Lemon’s approach during interviews.

“I talked to a scout just now who said he didn’t know what Makai Lemon’s motive was behind his combine interviews but whoever advised the kid needs to be fired. ‘Absolutely bombed it’ word for word,” Fehoko wrote.

Whether that assessment gains traction with NFL decision makers remains to be seen. However, Lemon’s production suggests otherwise.

The 2025 Biletnikoff Award winner hauled in 79 receptions for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns last season, leading the Power Four in receiving yards and yards after catch (502). A unanimous All-American, he recorded five 100-yard games and declared early for the 2026 NFL Draft.

NFL scouts have praised Lemon’s route-running precision and ability to create after the catch. Despite the noise in Indianapolis, most projections still place him comfortably in the first round this April.
