Cardinals named potential landing spot for two-time Super Bowl champion

The Kyler Murray era for the Arizona Cardinals appears to have run its course, and this offseason is looming as the final one between quarterback and franchise.

Exactly how the Cardinals move on from Murray is unknown, with a release or trade expected.

But who will the Cardinals find as a trade partner with the league, knowing they want to sell? Likely not a lot of teams. But if the Cardinals do move on from Murray, who could the franchise look to as its next franchise quarterback?

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, based on what he heard in Indianapolis at the scouting combine, Jimmy Garoppolo is one name to watch.

"Free agent Jimmy Garoppolo heading to Arizona is a strong option, too," Fowler wrote. "The Cardinals have interest, and Mike LaFleur is considered very close with Garoppolo. "That's his guy," a league source said. LaFleur can create a clean path to restart his quarterback room by adding at least one veteran and drafting a QB. That makes Murray and Brissett expendable, and the feeling in Indy is that Murray wants out of Arizona."

Is Garoppolo the answer?

Well, short-term you would have to say yes.

A veteran quarterback who has a resume of winning during his time in the league. Plus, he would likely come cheap, something that should interest Arizona.

The Cardinals need a change, and with a new head coach in, maybe a wise head at quarterback is what's needed. Garoppolo is no slouch; he's a competent quarterback who could be a good bridge option for 2026.

Of course, this move is predicated on Murray being moved on, and if he is, Garoppolo isn't a bad replacement.
