“A Significant Long Shot”: NFL Expert Doesn’t See Dolphins RB Getting Traded

Trade speculation has followed the Miami Dolphins throughout a turbulent NFL offseason, but one of their most dynamic playmakers appears unlikely to be on the move. Despite league chatter about a potential rebuild, running back De’Von Achane is widely viewed as a long shot to be dealt.

Around the NFL, executives believe Miami’s roster reset has prompted rival teams to inquire about several high-profile players. Achane’s explosive production and youth naturally make him an attractive target for franchises seeking speed and versatility in the backfield.

Still, the prevailing belief is that Miami’s front office sees Achane as part of its foundation rather than a trade chip. Team decision-makers are expected to prioritize extension talks over serious negotiations with interested clubs, signaling confidence in his role within the offense.

Achane’s ability to change games with limited touches has elevated his value beyond traditional rushing totals. His burst through the line, receiving ability out of the backfield and knack for generating chunk plays make him a rare asset in a league that increasingly prizes space and speed.

Achane may be staying put in Miami with a new deal in his name. This is detailed more in an analysis by Dan Graziano for ESPN.

The buzz: The league seems to believe the Dolphins are in a full rebuild, which means they’re getting calls on all of their star players. My sense is that they’re far more likely to extend Achane’s contract than to listen to those trade offers, but in their situation, you answer the phone when it rings. So, call any Achane trade a significant long shot that would take an awfully enticing package to get done.

That does not mean the Dolphins would ignore incoming calls altogether. In the current climate, teams answer the phone and gauge the market, but it would likely take an overwhelming offer to alter Miami’s stance on a player they view as a long-term centerpiece.

For now, the expectation is that Achane remains in South Florida as the Dolphins navigate their roster transition. Unless an extraordinary proposal materializes, a trade involving their electrifying running back appears improbable as the 2026 season approaches.
