The Golden State Warriors received another sobering update on Stephen Curry, who remains sidelined with patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee and will be re-evaluated again in 10 days, the team announced Sunday.

Curry has already missed the Warriors’ last 10 games, and the latest evaluation confirmed that while he is continuing to make progress, he is not yet ready to return to game action. The decision extends Golden State’s cautious approach with the two-time MVP as the regular season winds down.

Speaking Saturday night during ABC’s broadcast of the Warriors’ 129–101 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Curry acknowledged that his recovery remains unpredictable.

“It’s going to be a little longer,” Curry told ESPN’s Malika Andrews. “Right now with this one, it’s just about can each day. Can you stack good days, and I’ve done that, so hopefully they can unleash me on the court soon and get back out there sooner than later.”

The Warriors first announced on Feb. 19 that Curry would miss at least 10 additional days after experiencing a setback while attempting to return from what is commonly known as “runner’s knee.” An MRI showed no structural damage, but both Curry and the organization have emphasized the importance of avoiding a recurrence.

“This is a weird one,” Curry said. “It’s kind of unpredictable how it’ll heal, but every day since All-Star Week has been progress. That’s all I can ask for, and hopefully I’m back out soon.”

Five More Games Likely Without Curry

With Sunday’s announcement resetting the clock, Curry is now expected to miss at least five additional games during the new evaluation window.

Barring an accelerated recovery, Curry is unlikely to play in the following matchups:

The earliest realistic return would come after March 10, pending medical clearance following the next evaluation.

If Curry misses all five contests, Golden State will have gone 15 straight games without its franchise cornerstone, a stretch that has increasingly strained the team’s margin for error.

Warriors Struggling to Find Traction

The Warriors fell to 4–6 during Curry’s current absence after Saturday’s lopsided loss to the Lakers at Chase Center, a game in which Golden State struggled to generate consistent offense without its leading scorer and primary playmaker.

Golden State has leaned heavily on role players to fill the void, but the results have been uneven. Newly extended forward Gui Santos led the team with 14 points against Los Angeles, marking his fifth straight double-digit scoring effort, but the Warriors were outmatched early and never recovered.

Curry, meanwhile, said he has not yet returned to on-court basketball activity, focusing instead on conditioning and strengthening surrounding muscle groups.

“I haven’t gotten on the court yet,” Curry said. “Just trying to stay in shape, strengthen everything else around my body, knowing that at this stage, once you get back, it’s kind of a full sprint to the playoffs.”

He added that once he does return, managing discomfort will be part of the process — but only if the risk is controlled.

“It’s a little bit of a pain tolerance thing,” Curry said. “But it’s something you don’t want to have lingering because it can get worse.”

Bigger Picture Looms for Golden State

Curry’s extended absence has already disqualified him from All-NBA and other major awards due to the league’s 65-game threshold, and it has placed added pressure on a Warriors team trying to stay competitive in a crowded Western Conference playoff race.

They are just three games ahead of the 10th-place Clippers (27-31).

Turning 38 on March 14, Curry remains adamant that the priority is being available when it matters most.

“The goal is to be healthy come playoff time and be available when it matters most,” he said.

For now, Golden State continues to wait — stacking days, managing minutes before they even exist, and hoping that patience will pay off before the season slips further away.
