Mfuni on playing style, promotion aim and Man City ambition

Mfuni has made a superb start to life in Hertfordshire, playing at centre-back and left-back with an equal degree of comfort.

The way he brings the ball out from the back has particularly stood out, with his sweet left foot crucial to the way Watford are able to build up.

He described that ability and the areas he wants to improve in after the 2-1 win at Bristol City on Friday night.

Mfuni said: "The technical side is a unique part of my playing style.

"I think that's what separates me from the rest and I'm thankful to god for giving me that talent.

"I'm just hoping I'll become a better player in general here, I want to improve everything I'm good at and everything I'm not good at. Hopefully it will all improve.

"Obviously when City recalled Max Alleyne I was speaking to him and he was telling me how good Watford is, how good the environment is and the playing style as well. He said it would suit me and that the staff are really good.

"In the end I chose here because I had someone to guide me on what was going on here."

Mfuni is not just at Vicarage Road for personal development, though, highlighting his desire to achieve something on a team level, too.

He said: "From the team's perspective, we're trying to get promotion.

"We believe we can do it if we stick together as a team like we did today and we'll keep pushing."

In the long run, of course, Mfuni has his sights set on breaking through at the very highest level.

The defender turned 18 just this month – and the ultimate ambition is first-team football at City, for whom he made his debut in January.

He said: "That's everyone's goal, to break into the first team and play at the highest level, to win the best awards.

"I have players like Ruben Dias, who is a very good person. Nathan Ake.

"All of the first team there are nice. Sometimes when we're training there the first team will call us over to train with them and it's a really good environment.

"They're so warm and welcome and it feels like you're part of the team when you go over there.

"They help me with tips and have lots of experience."
