New York Jets GM Doesn’t Think He’ll Trade Up to 1st Pick in 2026 NFL Draft

The New York Jets are looking for any way to improve their roster after a terrible 2025 season. As a result, they are looking to improve at the quarterback position after one year with Justin Fields. While there are a handful of different ways the team could go, there is a chance they trade up from the second pick in this year’s draft to get their choice of who to select. The team’s general manager discussed the potential of a trade happening for the Jets to get the first pick of the draft.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini asked New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey about the possibility of trading with the Las Vegas Raiders for the first pick after the Jermaine Johnson trade to the Tennessee Titans. While Mougey kept it on the table, he essentially said not to count on it.

“Absolutely, we’ll talk about all those things, but I don’t think that’s happening.”

The Raiders are likely going to be selecting the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza out of Indiana. This draft is looking to only have one elite quarterback prospect, so the Jets are likely going to need to look elsewhere to improve the quarterback position. With free agency and trades being available, there are some intriguing options at the quarterback position if they do not want to select one from the NFL Draft.

The New York Jets have five first-round selections over the next two drafts, including the second and 16th picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. It will be intriguing to see how the front office is able to address its quarterback problem this offseason.
