Liverpool agreed a sale of the teenage winger last week.

Molde FK have thanked Liverpool for how they handled negotiations in the process of signing a young winger.

The Reds announced last Friday that Trent Kone-Doherty had left the club for Norwegian outfit Molde. Kone-Doherty spent three-and-a-half years at Liverpool’s academy, having joined from Derry City in 2022.

The winger, 19, made two first-team appearances for Liverpool. But with regular chances in the future perhaps limited, with Rio Ngumoha very much regarded as part of the senior set-up while there is high regard for England youth international Joshua Abe, Kone-Doherty opted to bring the curtain down on his time at Anfield.

He joined Molde for a fee of around £650,000, with Liverpool installing a buy-back and a significant sell-on clause in the deal.

Kone-Doherty will be hoping to make his mark in Norway, with Molde finishing 10th in the Eliteserien last season. Sporting director Ole Jakob Strandhagen told the club’s website after the arrival of Kone-Doherty was announced: “Trent is a technically good and fast winger who has shown his skills and not least potential in the final third during his time at Liverpool. At the same time, he has intensity and pressure in the game that benefits the team both with and without the ball, says Ole Jakob.

“He is well educated at Liverpool, and we are very happy that he has chosen Molde as the next step in his development. The process has been good and we thank Liverpool for a good negotiating climate, despite the fact that they also had a strong desire to keep Trent. We look forward to further developing his offensive qualities at Aker Stadion and in the Eliteserien.”

On his move to Molde, Kone-Doherty said: “It's the perfect club for me to come to. I like the project I've been presented with here and I'm really excited to get started

"I'm a player who likes to get the fans out of their seats. I always try to express myself on the field and be fearless.”
