Harden open about his retirement: 'Coming soon'

Following his mid-season trade to Cleveland, James Harden is reflecting on his future as retirement nears. The veteran guard, who continues to star for the Cavaliers, told Michael Scotto he is realistic about his age while staying focused on contributing at a high level for the Eastern contenders.

The Cleveland Cavaliers opted for a backcourt swap ahead of the 2026 Trade Deadline.

Eastern contenders decided to trade with the Los Angeles Clippers for James Harden.

Since returning to the Eastern Conference, Harden averaged 19.3 points, 8 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 8 games for the Cavs.

This August, Harden will turn 37, and he is aware that retirement is knocking right around his door.

Even though he still contributes at an elite level, Harden is realistic about his time left in the league:

"I know retirement is coming soon. Hopefully, later than soon, but it’s a reality. Everybody has to go through this at some point," he started.

"Just trying to continue to keep my body in shape and play well. We’ll see what happens in the next few years. Take one game at a time and cherish the moments,” Harden said to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Last night, Harden was the Cavs' top scorer in their win over his former team, the Brooklyn Nets, flirting with a triple-double performance as he had 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists.
