A look at the early injury news surrounding Arsenal and Brighton as they prepare to face off in the Premier League.
Arsenal picked up another big win in their title bid on Sunday, defeating Chelsea at home to pass another big test. The Gunners remain five points clear having played a game more after the weekend’s action, but there is little rest.
The Gunners are back in action as soon as Wednesday when they face Brighton away from home. The Seagulls beat Nottingham Forest over the weekend to move up to 11th in the Premier League. Fabian Hurzuler’s men will be tricky customers for the Gunners, and ahead of the game, we have rounded up all the latest injury news surrounding both sides.
Stefanos Tzimas - Out
Tzimas tore his ACL back in December. Hurzuler confirmed at the time: “I can confirm [it is an ACL]. We see him, he is here. He is already starting his rehab. He will have surgery, and we have big trust in the doctors and our medical dept. We are quite convinced he will be back as quick as possible and in even better shape.”
Adam Webster - Out
Webster suffered an ACL rupture in the summer and is likely to miss the whole season.
Yasin Ayari - Out
Ayari could be an option here after missing out over the weekend. Hurzuler said before that game: “He had some sessions on the pitch without any contact, and now he's able to get in contact with his opponents, with his teammates. Hopefully, everything goes well, and then he might be an option for the weekend.”
Mikel Merino - Out
Merino is likely going to miss the rest of the season after a foot fracture. Arteta said after the Spaniard’s surgery: “Well, I think the doctors were really happy the way it went. Yeah, now it starts. Obviously, it's a long process. You're talking about bone healing, so you need to be patient. You respect the timings, and I'm sure Mikel is going to do everything that he possibly can to speed up the process. We're talking about months, whether it's three, four or five, we don't know.”
Martin Odegaard - Doubt
Odegaard didn’t make the Chelsea game and so he will remain a doubt here. Arteta said after the game: “Unfortunately, Martin is still not feeling totally comfortable with that knee injury, and we decided not to risk him.”
Ben White - Out
White remained absent for the Chelsea game, with Arteta explaining beforehand: “We're waiting for tomorrow, the last training session, to understand if we have one or two available from last week.” White will remain a doubt until confirmed otherwise.
