Liverpool could hardly have asked for a better platform to launch into a pivotal week, brushing aside West Ham 5-2 at Anfield to underline the sense that Arne Slot’s side are starting to build real momentum again.

That victory followed on from the grind-it-out win at Nottingham Forest and means the Reds head into March with confidence restored and goals flowing, just as the fixtures begin to pile up.

With a Premier League trip to Wolves on Tuesday night and a quick-fire FA Cup meeting with the same opponents to come, not to mention a looming Champions League last‑16 tie against Galatasaray, Liverpool know this period could go a long way to defining their season.

It is exactly the sort of spell when Slot would want all of his key attacking weapons available, but the major question mark once again surrounds Florian Wirtz.

The German playmaker has now missed Liverpool’s last two league games after pulling up with a back problem during the warm‑up at the City Ground, an issue that was initially expected to clear up quickly.

Instead, the 22-year-old was forced to sit out both the Forest win and the rout of West Ham, leaving supporters anxiously checking for updates ahead of the midweek visit to Molineux.

Now Arne Slot has provided his latest on the 22-year-old while speaking in his pre-Wolves press conference this Monday morning:

“Not anything different to what I said after the game. The game probably comes too soon tomorrow and maybe the game at the weekend. We hope to have him back next week,” Slot said.
