Opinion: £9m Everton star surely giving Moyes a headache ahead of Burnley clash, he was 8/10…

David Moyes could make changes against Burnley and Tim Iroegbunam could well be giving the manager a headache ahead of this game.

After beating Newcastle United at the weekend, Everton are back at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to host the Clarets.

Surely a great opportunity to finally get back on track at Hill Dickinson? 🙏

It’s a great opportunity to get back on track at home, with Scott Parker’s side having found the going tough in the Premier League.

They sit 19th in the table and eight points adrift of safety.

Given it’s a quick turnaround, David Moyes is likely to make some changes – and Tim Iroegbunam may feel he should get a chance.

Idrissa Gana Gueye was much better against Newcastle at the weekend than in previous games, and Moyes acknowledged both him and Iliman Ndiaye after the win for their efforts.

But there could be a danger of over-exerting the veteran by starting him against Burnley.

Moyes ought to rotate him in the interest of keeping him as fresh as possible – and Tim Iroegbunam may well be the best option.

In the reverse fixture, Iroegbunam had one of his better games for Everton.

Partnering James Garner in midfield in the absence of Gueye – who was at AFCON – Iroegbunam put in an energetic display and was ultimately handed an 8/10 rating by the Liverpool Echo. This was the highest mark awarded to any player.

They said of him: “Filled Idrissa Gueye’s boots well again, he was an energetic presence in the engine room, keeping things moving and he did well to win the ball back and sent Beto up for his back heel chance, later being booked for a challenge on Jaidon Anthony.”

David Moyes has some good alternatives

Iroegbunam – who cost £9 million (talkSPORT) – has to be a strong consideration for the manager to come in.

But there’s also the potential to go with someone like Harrison Armstrong, who Moyes has leant on quite a lot in recent weeks. That is, of course, unless the manager plays him out wide again, which would not go down well.

Merlin Rohl is a player some Everton fans have been clamouring to see, after his fine performance against Aston Villa back in January.

Strangely, Rohl has not played a single minute since that game. But his freshness might be required against Burnley.

But with Iroegbunam having recently started against Manchester United, he is perhaps the best bet to replace Gueye.
