La Liga club open door for Liverpool outcast–Summer transfer on agenda

Giorgi Mamardashvili

FRANKFURT AM MAIN, GERMANY – OCTOBER 22: Goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili of Liverpool FC looks on during the UEFA Champions League match between Eintracht Frankfurt and Liverpool

Prior to moving to Liverpool, Giorgi Mamardashvili was an absolute idol at Valencia. There was disappointment when the transfer to the Reds was agreed, but then relief he stayed on loan.

Ahead of the goalkeeper’s physical arrival at Anfield there was hope he could stay on loan for another reason. In Valencia, and across Spain generally, there was an assumption that he was simply too good to be Alisson’s back up.

Indeed, he was considered one of the best stoppers in the world by Valencia fans and the media surrounding the club. That he’s only made 11 Liverpool appearances so far this season will be seen as a huge waste of talent.

Recent claims in the UK have stated he’s considering asking for an exit.

Why there’s an open door waiting in Spain

The reaction from Valencia is that the door is option. El Desmarque explain the Spanish club are keeping a close eye on their former player’s situation at Liverpool.

That’s based on two reasons. Should Giorgi Mamardashvili ask for an exit and be granted a permanent one then Valencia are due a percentage of any profit.

Likelier, Liverpool would consider a loan exit, keeping the Georgian on their books for the future.

In that scenario, Valencia would look to bring him back. A permanent transfer would be out of reach for the club, but a loan very welcome indeed.

Los Ches have spent this season battling relegation and Mamardashvili returning would be a boost for everyone connected to the club.

How likely that is remains to be seen. Alisson has a further year of contract, should Liverpool look to use their option.

At 25-years-of-age, his reserve will know he needs to be playing more than he is. Should a transfer happen then it’s quite possible the player’s camp aim higher than Valencia, despite the bond in place.
