Mike Evans
Could Buccaneers star Mike Evans sign with the 49ers?
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are entering an important offseason. There is no question that the Buccaneers should be very aggressive this offseason when it comes to making moves, as they are coming off a very disappointing and frustrating 2025 season.
The Buccaneers finished the 2025 campaign with an 8-9 record and ended up missing the playoffs for the first time since 2019 because of it. The Buccaneers’ poor finish to the season is what ultimately crushed their playoff hopes, as they lost in four out of their final five games of the season.
Now, after a tough season, the Buccaneers should be looking to make upgrades at multiple spots on their roster. Yet, at the same time, they will also be looking to keep franchise wide receiver Mike Evans around. The 12-year veteran has the opportunity to test the free agent market, but the Buccaneers will be looking hard to re-sign him. If they do not get him signed to a new deal, it would create a massive hole on both their roster and in their room.
However, with Evans being one of the top free agents this year, he is going to have several suitors. As a result of this, he is now being linked to one of the top contenders in the NFC.
Buccaneers’ Mike Evans Linked to San Francisco 49ers
In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Alex Ballentine took a look at one perfect free agent target for each NFL team. With Ballentine noting that each predicted signing was an external one, Evans was not picked for the Buccaneers. Instead, the six-time Pro Bowler was named a perfect potential signing for the San Francisco 49ers.
“If Mike Evans is going to suit up for anyone other than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it’s likely to be a Super Bowl contender. The 49ers can be a championship team if they can stay healthy and Brock Purdy has receivers to throw to. Brandon Aiyuk is likely on the way out. George Kittle will be working his way back from a torn Achilles while Jauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne are both set to hit free agency,” Ballentine wrote.
With the 49ers being true contenders and needing another star wide receiver, it would be entirely understandable if they made a major push for Evans in free agency. He would undoubtedly give their offense a significant boost if signed, as he is still a high-impact wide receiver at this point in his career.
Buccaneers’ Evans Should Have Several Suitors
With Evans being one of the top free agents this year, the 49ers likely will not be the only team that looks to steal Evans away from the Buccaneers. Any teams in need of another star wide receiver should be pursuing Evans. A few specific teams that should be watched in the sweepstakes include the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and New England Patriots.
Yet, with Evans being such an important player for the Buccaneers, they should be working very hard to keep him in Tampa Bay. It will be interesting to see if they can do just that from here.
