A Leeds United star has issued a confident Whites message following the his side’s defeat to Manchester City.

Daniel Farke’s Whites went into Saturday evening’s hosting of title-chasing City having lost just two of their last 16 games in league and cup but suffered a 1-0 loss as Antoine Semenyo bagged the only goal of the game.

Leeds, however, squandered several fine chances to go ahead long before Semenyo’s strike in first-half stoppage time, Dominic Calvert-Lewin wasting the best of them when firing wide from six yards out with four minutes on the clock.

Gruev, though, very quickly served a reminder of how many goals Calvert-Lewin had already netted so far this season and said his team simply found luck going against them en route to defeat.

“Wasn’t on our side”

Speaking post match to LUTV, the Bulgarian midfielder said his team’s display clearly highlighted the confidence in camp, even facing a team like Manchester City.

Asked if the display showed that Leeds were full of confidence now, Gruev reasoned: “Of course, we knew that City would have more of the ball than us. Unfortunately it's the way they play.

"But we also knew that we would have our moments and then when we jump we have to jump all the team, aggressive, men against men, high up the pitch and I think we did it really good. We found our moments."

Asked if he looked back at Calvert-Lewin’s early missed chance, Gruev declared: “Dom has scored so many goals for us this season.

"Of course, we had two or three really, really big chances. Sometimes you have luck, sometimes not. The luck wasn't on our side."
