Report: Liverpool may raid Bayer Leverkusen again this summer as scouts hone in on £52m target

Jarell Quansah could be set for a swift Liverpool return as reports from Germany paint clear picture of interest.

Bayer Leverkusen lost two of their star players to Liverpool last summer in Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, but reaching an agreement to take the 23-year-old the other way will have softened the blow.

Quansah wanted to leave Liverpool in search of a greater role, and he has been a regular for Leverkusen this season.

But FSG might be regretting their decision to let him go, and they appear to be exploring the option of bringing the defender back to Anfield.

It made sense to sell Quansah last summer. Liverpool will have been operating under the assumption that Marc Guehi was coming in straight away to take his place.

Of course, that never happened, with Man City stealing Guehi out from under us.

As the season wore on, it was impossible to shake the feeling that it was a mistake to sell the academy graduate.

A new report from TEAMtalk points to the Reds wanting to rectify the Quansah decision, claiming that Liverpool scouts have been at Leverkusen’s last four games, and the Englishman has ‘impressed hugely’.

His side conceded just one goal in that span. He must have learned a lot from Virgil van Dijk, because he already has three goals in 16 starts.

Liverpool’s interest is ‘intensifying’, and Quansah’s name continues to pop up in internal discussions about the back line.

Liverpool don’t have buy-back until next year

When they sold Quansah, Liverpool inserted a £52 million buy-back clause into the deal.

Small issue — it doesn’t activate until next year.

That being said, the Reds are in a strong position to negotiate an early move, and Leverkusen ‘would not stand in his way’.

It might require going over the agreed fee, which would make this a costly signing but one that would help with homegrown requirements while also ensuring some continuity in the Liverpool defence.

This would all depend on the player, too. Quansah is probably happier with his new role and bringing him back would likely require some convincing.
