Everton manager David Moyes has hinted at fresh injury concerns ahead of his side’s home game with Burnley on Tuesday. But the boss remained tight-lipped when it came to the detail over the potential issues.
The Blues are without long-term absentee Jack Grealish, who is expected to be out for the rest of the season following an operation on a stress fracture on his left foot, while club captain Seamus Coleman will also miss the visit of the Clarets.
Everton won 3-2 against Newcastle United on Saturday at St James’ Park and speaking in his pre-match press conference to preview the Clarets’ first-ever visit to Hill Dickinson Stadium, Moyes said: We’ve got a couple of things that I wouldn’t reveal at the moment.
“But obviously, Charly Alcaraz is out and is not back on the grass and Seamus Coleman picked up a little bit of a nick during training on Friday and missed out at the weekend.
“He won’t be available for this game but we’re hoping that he’s not going to be too long.”
Against the Magpies, Beto was picked in the starting line-up for a Premier League game for the first time since the goalless draw against Burnley at Turf Moor on December 27.
He and his second-half replacement Thierno Barry both scored, presenting Moyes with a potential selection dilemma.
Asked whether he ever might be tempted to pair the strikers together, the 62-year-old said: “Possibly, at times. There are other factors that lead into that.
“Other people are coming out of the side and you’re looking at different players if you do that as well.
“It’s probably been out of fashion, two strikers, for maybe 20 years now. It’s interesting because lots of things have come in like long throws have come back in fashion and lots of set-piece goals are back in fashion, so who knows?
“Playing two centre-forwards might be the future. Will we do it? We may well do it when we need to, but I don’t think it’s something I’d be doing all the time, that’s for sure.”
