Jordan Love is a rising star with the Green Bay Packers, and even though he hasn’t led the team to a Super Bowl yet, he’s certainly one of the up-and-coming quarterbacks in the league.
So, the Packers have no reason to draft a franchise quarterback in the 2026 NFL draft, but you can never have too much good depth in the position.
Heading into the 2026 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers are being predicted to pick up an unassuming quarterback to back up Love. After all, Love has a history of injury, so they have to be prepared if something happens to him during the 2026-27 season.
In a Saturday, February 28, feature for USA Today, Jacob Camenker names his 2026 NFL draft picks for specifically the quarterback position, and regarding the Packers, he likes Taylen Green out of Arkansas. He projects the Packers picking him up as the No. 199 overall, sixth round pick.
“Green was a four-year starter at Boise State and Arkansas and has tantalizing tools,” Camenker notes in the feature. “The 6-6, 230-pounder possesses a cannon arm and elite mobility for his size but had mechanical issues and struggled with turnovers throughout his college career.”
Camenker adds, “The Packers could use a high-upside backup behind Jordan Love with Malik Willis set to hit free agency. Pairing Green with a proven, offensive-minded coach like Matt LaFleur could pay dividends.”
In the NFL’s profile of the player states that he’s a “long, rangy, dual-threat quarterback with upside” and has the “ability to generate explosive plays as a runner and passer helped keep his offense afloat.”
However, the NFL’s profile adds that “in-game consistency has been a sticking point, though. He has a long, unorthodox delivery and tends to baby too many throws.”
The profile also states that “he can generate enough velocity and distance to stress defenses over the second and third levels. Green puts the ball in harm's way at an alarming rate, which will translate to greater trouble against more talented defenders and more complicated coverage reads.”
In the end, they state that while “Green's upside will be tantalizing,” his “his ceiling will only track with his growth as a passer.”
