The Los Angeles Rams have been successful over the last several years, but at some point, quarterback Matthew Stafford will not be the starting quarterback anymore for this franchise. Los Angeles this offseason needs to figure out a succession plan for Stafford. The Rams could address it with one of its two first round selections this year or do it elsewhere.

One player who is on the trade market is quarterback Anthony Richardson. He turned out to be a major bust for the Indianapolis Colts. Richardson was the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He needs to be developed properly still. Would Los Angeles be willing to take a flyer on him?

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. (5) tosses a wrist band in the air Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, during practice at the Colts training facility in Indianapolis.
Marc Ross of nfl.com and other NFL analysts wrote about which team should trade for Richardson. He thinks that the Rams would be an ideal landing spot for him. Ross said about this possibility,
“Richardson’s situation is a Catch-22. He has so little playing experience that he needs to get on the field in order to develop, yet he still is not ready to play at a consistent enough level to produce wins as a starter. Thus, the Rams would be an ideal landing spot. He would learn behind reigning MVPMatthew Stafford" data-link="/players/matthew-stafford/" data-slug="matthew-stafford">Matthew Staffordin the Sean McVay offense, and the only other QB on the current roster isStetson Bennett" data-link="/players/stetson-bennett/" data-slug="stetson-bennett">Stetson Bennett, who was selected 124 spots behind Richardson in the 2023 draft. The hope would be for Richardson to emerge much like this offseason’s top quarterback in the free agency market,Malik Willis" data-link="/players/malik-willis/" data-slug="malik-willis">Malik Willis, who saw drastic improvements under Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, with the same offense McVay runs in L.A.”
Richardson didn’t see the field much last season for the Colts because of injury and also losing the starting job to Daniel Jones. He only completed 50% of his passes. If the Rams feel like they can fix him, then this would be the greatest thing that head coach Sean McVay has ever done in his coaching career then.
