La Liga side“attentive” to Giorgi Mamardashvili situation

Giorgi Mamardashvili’s Liverpool dream is threatening to fizzle out, with the Georgian goalkeeper having seen very little game time this 2025/26 season, only really stepping in when Alisson Becker has been injured or rotated.

His role has been reduced to that of an understudy despite arriving with the expectation of becoming the Brazilian’s long‑term successor, and the lack of minutes is beginning to weigh heavily on him.

Mamardashvili joined Liverpool for a fee in excess of 35 million euros in the summer of 2024, with a clear initial plan: sign for Liverpool, stay one more season on loan at Valencia CF, then head to Merseyside to eventually take over from Alisson. Only half of that plan has actually materialised. He completed that extra year at Mestalla, but once he finally arrived in England his role quickly became secondary, totalling just 934 minutes across 11 matches since signing, a meagre return for a goalkeeper of his calibre.

And reports from Spain assert that Los Che could be looking to bring the Georgian back to La Liga.

Mamardashvili first arrived at Valencia in 2021, initially with Valencia Mestalla, and then established himself as a first‑choice keeper and full international, racking up 134 official appearances for Los Che, 127 of them in La Liga. He effectively spent four seasons at the club, the last of those on loan from Liverpool after his 2024 transfer, and left Mestalla with his reputation enhanced and the door very much left open for a possible return.

Now El Desmarque has reported that Valencia are “attentive” to the situation of the 24-year-old. Their are two reasons given.

First, they are in the market for a goalkeeper for next season and know Mamardashvili is both proven at Mestalla and adored by the fanbase. Second, there is a significant financial incentive: Valencia retain 10% of any future sale and are also entitled to a slice of the solidarity payment mechanism, having contributed to his development between the ages of 12 and 23, which would give them around 1% of any transfer fee.

While a Valenica return seems like a long shot, there is no doubt that Mamardashvili will want to take over from Alisson sooner rather than later.
