'We're ready': Rob Edwards views Liverpool challenge as 'exciting' and points out two Wolves advantages

Wolves boss Rob Edwards is not shying away from the challenge of facing Liverpool twice in four days.

Both ties have very different stakes, with Tuesday’s Premier League outing far more important for the Reds. That’s because Wolves already have one foot in the Championship.

The FA Cup clash on Friday offers them their only chance of silverware, so that is the one they will be most fired up for.

Boring, but does anybody really see Slot pulling a surprise selection?

But Edwards is giving his side a decent chance in both games, and it’s all down to rest and recovery as well as fortunate injury circumstances at Molineux.

Rob Edwards explains Wolves edge over Liverpool

Arne Slot addressed the media on Monday morning, where he confirmed that Florian Wirtz won’t be available for Liverpool and explained why he doesn’t love watching the Premier League.

Edwards’ press conference was in the afternoon, and he had only good news to share.

He said: “We need to make sure we get the balance right, there’s a lot of games. We’ve had time to recover and we’re ready.”

Wolves beat Liverpool’s top-five rivals, Aston Villa, on Friday night, so they have had an extra 24 hours to get ready for Liverpool. And to make matters worse, they aren’t dealing with a single solitary injury.

He clarified: “We have a fully fit squad to pick from.”

Liverpool, on the other hand, are not spoiled for choice ahead of this clash. And they also have to account for the Champions League knockouts kicking off next week.

Rob Edwards is excited for this Liverpool challenge

Edwards has had a tough time of it since making the step up from the Championship, but he did inherit one of the worst teams in recent Premier League history.

Having passed the all-important 11-point mark at the weekend with a fantastic win over their Midlands rivals, confidence is at an all-time high. That could spell danger for Liverpool.

Asked about the challenge that faces him this week, Edwards responded: “In the Premier League, anyone on their day can give anyone a game. We have to be at our best to threaten these teams.

“Liverpool are the current champions and an amazing football club. It’s really exciting for us playing them twice in a week.”

Out of the cup or top four hopes take a hit?

Wolves may be at the foot of the standings, but they have caused some of the best teams problems since Edwards took over — I’m thinking back to the comeback against Arsenal, a brilliant display against United, and of course the tricky reverse fixture against Liverpool.

Not a team to take for granted, especially ahead of two high-stakes clashes on their home turf.
