Insider Urges Patriots To Sign Future Hall Of Famer This Offseason

The New England Patriots had just 35 sacks as a team last season, and Mike Vrabel has already identified the pass rush as an area the team needs to improve.

The Patriots have options in free agency and the draft to add to their pass rush. Re-signing K'Lavon Chaisson is something the Patriots should consider, but they still need to add to last year's group. MassLive's Mark Daniels suggested the Patriots go after Khalil Mack.

"If the Patriots wanted to bring in a seasoned veteran, they could turn to Mack," Daniels wrote on Monday. "The 2016 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, he finished with 5.5 sacks last season in 12 games for the Chargers. The 35-year-old would be a short-term option, but would provide experience to the Patriots’ edge rusher position. The team could pair him with a rookie, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if they looked to get younger this offseason."

Mack had 5.5 sacks in just 12 games last season. He had a 17-sack season in 2023, and the future Hall of Famer has some gas left in the tank. He is not going to singlehandedly fix the Patriots' pass rush, but he could be a great addition if the Patriots cannot land a superstar in his prime.

Maxx Crosby is a name linked to the Patriots in rumors. He would certainly be higher on the Patriots' list of choices than Mack. However, if the Patriots fail to add him or another premier pass rusher, Mack could help improve the unit.

Mack is still searching for his first Super Bowl appearance, and the Patriots are coming off a great run. Mack could view the Patriots as a great destination to try and win a ring.
