Report: £380k-a-week striker wants exit after being linked with Chelsea and Tottenham

Chelsea are expected to be in the market for a new striker this summer and one option that has emerged is Al Hilal’s former Liverpool star Darwin Nunez.

An £85m signing for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2022, Uruguay star Nunez failed to live up to the hype after a wonderful stint at Benfica. Just 40 goals followed in three seasons at Anfield.

But there is no doubt that Nunez can have an impact. His ability to run and bully defenders caught the eye among the Liverpool faithful during time on Merseyside, who were willing him to do well throughout.

He left last summer to join Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal, linking up with the likes of Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly and January target Ruben Neves. However, he is already being linked with a return.

Darwin Nunez wants Premier League move amid Chelsea links

A report from The Chronicle claims Chelsea have entered the fray for Nunez this summer, despite the plethora of options in attack. Emanuel Emegha is set to link up with squad from Strasbourg this summer.

He joins Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu as options. Delap is being targeted by five Premier League clubs and Nicolas Jackson will return to Chelsea from his disappointing loan at Bayern Munich.

According to TMW, Nunez wants to return to the Premier League. It is believed he is earning around £380,000 a week and a pay cut will be required even if he joins one of the division’s biggest clubs.

It all depends on how much Al Hilal want for Nunez…

Liverpool fans will attest to this. There is a player in Nunez, a player that can score goals right at the top level. But he is a rough diamond, a player that can be wasteful in his finishing and does make mistakes.

But Nunez is a handful and Premier League defenders know they have been in a battle with him when coming up against the Uruguayan. If Chelsea are to pursue a move, it all hinges on Al Hilal’s price tag.

If Al Hilal want a similar fee to the one they paid last summer, then Chelsea should ignore it. But if they can manage to sign Nunez for a £30m fee or in that region, then perhaps it is a risk worth taking.
