Four things we learnt from Arsenal's 2-1 win against Chelsea

**Arsenal**came out on top against Chelsea and survived a scare after the visitors levelled the score just before half time.

William Saliba put the Gunners ahead, before Piero Hincapie scored an own goal from a corner right on half time.

Jurrien Timber then scored another from a corner to put the home side back in front in the 66th minute.

Liam Rosenior's Chelsea finished a match with ten men yet again after Pedro Neto was shown a red card soon after Mikel Arteta's side went in front.

Therefore, there was not to be another goal for the Blues and it finished 2-1.

Here are four takeaways from the game:

Corner kicks prove decisive

All of the goals in this game came from corners.

Set pieces such as long throws and corners have become a key part of the game in the last year and Arsenal are one of the best teams at using these as a constant threat.

It was no surprise that both of their goals came from a corner.

Corners are a real threat for them and both of their centre-backs, Gabriel and William Saliba combined for the opening goal.

It was another defender in Timber who scored the winner.

Chelsea's goal came from a Reece James delivery and it was a good ball into the box. Unfortunately for Arsenal, Hincapie got a slight touch on it and was enough to direct it goalwards.

In a game between two top sides, who have good attacking players, it was three set pieces and goals from Arsenal's defenders that proved to be the difference.

Liam Rosenior has only lost three games since becoming Chelsea manager but each of these defeats has been to Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal are a strong side and can cause any team problems but, after losses in the **EFL Cup**and now the Premier League, Rosenior will not be wanting to come up against Arteta's side anytime again soon.

The Gunners certainly have the advantage over their London rivals at the moment and will be hoping that they can gain the silverware to prove it further.

Passing the tests?

Arsenal have played their North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and now Chelsea in their last two games.

In the game before these fixtures they were 2-0 up at Wolverhampton Wanderers yet went on to draw 2-2. That was a disappointing night for Arteta and his side.

However, they have responded well. Despite their terrible form, Spurs could have still proved to be a difficult game yet the Gunners won comfortably at 4-1.

Chelsea, equally, could have been a tough opponent and it was not an easy game. The home side did not have it all their own way and they had to work for the win.

When they were pegged back to 1-1, they could have folded but they demonstrated character and patience and went on to get the three points.

What does it mean for the title race?

Arsenal will have a feeling of confidence after this result and, after Manchester City won on Saturday the pressure was on them to get a result as well.

They have restored the gap to City to five points. There is the fact that Arsenal have to play City still and City have a game in hand over Arsenal. However, it is still very much all to play for.

There is still plenty of football to play between now and May. The gap is not as big as it could have been and some disappointing draws did let **Pep Guardiola's**side back into it.

That said, it is now back to back wins for Arteta's men and they will go to Brighton in midweek in search of another positive result to keep the dream alive.
