Raiders' Maxx Crosby Linked to Super Bowl Contender in Trade Update: Report

A potentially significant update on the ongoing Maxx Crosby trade rumors has arrived, with the Las Vegas Raiders star possibly heading to a Super Bowl contender soon.

With the NFL Scouting Combine recently taking place, the Raiders are focused on their future, including the obvious choice of franchise quarterback Fernando Mendoza as the first overall pick. Before that happens, they may orchestrate a major trade this coming week.

The latest update from Sr. NFL reporter Albert Breer suggests Crosby could be on the move “as soon as” the coming week, depending on how things work out. Three NFL teams are reportedly keeping a close watch on his availability.

According to Breer (via Yahoo! Sports), those three NFL teams are the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots. The latter of these teams is coming off their run to the Super Bowl, in which they lost to a team that was better on both sides of the ball.

However, Dallas also traded away defensive star Micah Parsons last season and could also use a superstar like Crosby. They ranked third-worst in the league when it came to yards allowed to their opponents on offense.

The Eagles ranked above the middle of the league in that category, just above the Raiders, but would likely want to upgrade their roster further heading into next season.

The 6-foot-5 Maxx Crosby has seven seasons in the league. He was held out of two games by the Raiders on injured reserve last season despite wanting to participate, and speculation soon arrived that he was disgruntled with his situation with the team.

However, he's racked up 439 total tackles and 69.5 sacks in his career, along with 11 forced fumbles, one interception, and 29 passes defended in his career, so he'd undoubtedly upgrade any team that trades for him.

Crosby could be interested in joining a team that is instantly contending for a playoff spot and Super Bowl rings. Both New England and Philadelphia seem to offer that immediately, with some questioning the Cowboys as contenders.

The biggest question the Raiders are asking is whether they want to repair a relationship rumored to be fractured with Crosby or trade him for more draft picks to help build around Mendoza for the future.
