Montgomery, 28, spent the past three seasons in Detroit after four years with Chicago. In Detroit, Montgomery formed half of the Lions’ iconic “Sonic and Knuckles” backfield alongside Jahmyr Gibbs.

Now, Knuckles is a Texan after seeing his yards and touches diminish each season in Detroit as Sonic took on more and more of the Lions’ backfield workload. Montgomery played 48% of the Lions’ snaps in 2023, 41% in 2024, and just 37% in 2025.

The Iowa State product rushed for 716 yards and eight touchdowns on 158 carries last season.

In return, the Lions get two picks and center Juice Scruggs, a former second-round pick out of Penn State entering his fourth season. Scruggs started just one game last season.
