Arsenal are hoping to get their hands on the Premier League trophy this season under Mikel Arteta
Arsenal are ‘closely monitoring’ Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to CaughtOffside. The report adds that Liverpool and Barcelona are also interested in the Serie A star. His current club could demand up to £88million for his signature.
The Gunners remain top of the Premier League table ahead of Manchester City. They won 2-1 at home against Chelsea over the weekend. William Saliba and Jurrien Timber got their goals against the Blues at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal target Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni
Arsenal could see Bastoni as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. In addition, he would give them something different to call upon.
Bastoni, 26, has been on the books of Inter since joining them in 2017. Prior to his switch to the San Siro, he rose up through Atalanta’s academy ranks and broke into their first-team as a youngster. He has since become a key player in Milan and has made 291 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with nine goals.
The Italy international, who has 41 caps to his name, has never played outside of his native country. A change of scene later this year may well do him good ahead of the next campaign. Arsenal’s immediate focus is on getting their hands on the trophy ahead of City. However, they will need to start thinking about their recruitment plans for the next window and Bastoni is someone who would fit the bill.
Arsenal boost title hopes with Chelsea win
Speaking after their important victory over Chelsea, Arsenal manager Arteta said: “A proper London derby. We expected that because of the quality of the opposition, because of the individual quality that they have, and because we played them four times already, so we know how good and difficult they are to play against.
“After we started the game so well, the first half was very, very dominant. I think the margin and the scoreline should have been bigger. But we were 1-1, so game on. I reminded them that we were in exactly the same position against the Spurs seven days ago in that dressing room. They said, look what happened in the second half, so we're going to do it again.”
