Chelsea have the chance to freshen up their squad with some reinforcements this summer
Chelsea hold an ‘interest’ in Al-Hilal striker Darwin Nunez along with Newcastle United, according to a report by the ChronicleLive. The Blues could try and lure the ex-Liverpool man back to England this summer. He is facing an uncertain future in Saudi Arabia right now.
Liam Rosenior’s side were beaten 2-1 away by Arsenal on Sunday afternoon. They weren’t able to find an equaliser against the Gunners and slumped to a defeat. Pedro Neto was sent off for them at the Emirates Stadium.
Chelsea keen on Darwin Nunez move this summer
Chelsea could see Nunez as someone to boost their attacking department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. In addition, his pace and power would be a useful weapon for Rosenior to utilise.
The Uruguay international, who has 36 caps to his name, was on the books at Liverpool from 2022 up until last year. Prior to his switch to Anfield, he had spells at Penarol, Almeria and Benfica. The attacker went on to score 40 goals in 143 games during his days on Merseyside before Al-Hilal came calling.
His move to the Middle East hasn’t gone to plan though and he may well leave when the next window opens up for business. The 26-year-old has found the net on nine occasions in 24 outings so far but his situation is uncertain. Chelsea could hand him an escape route from the Pro League but they face competition from Newcastle.
Liam Rosenior reaction to Chelsea loss at Arsenal
Speaking after Chelsea’s defeat at Arsenal, Rosenior said: “As a group, me as the leader as well, we have to take more accountability for some of the decision-making we're having in terms of our discipline and in terms of the moments of the goals.
“Some of them are just not acceptable at this level. You can fine players. It's not about the punishment, it's about finding the reason why. It's a focus and a concentration thing that we need to get right.
“I know the record of the club is not great from the start of the season, and now it's getting bad. We had 10 games when I was in where we didn't have these issues, but we've had two in two games. There's something deep-lying that we need to get to the bottom of.”
