Chelsea bring in another ex-Albion man on short-team deal

First team boss Liam Rosenior has called in Casper Ankergren as an interim goalkeeper coach.

The Dane will work with Ben Roberts on the Chelsea staff until the end of season.

Ankergren, previously with Leeds, was taken to Albion by Gus Poyet just ahead of the 2010-11 season and was No.1 as they progressed from League One football at Withdean to the Amex and the Championship.

He later had a coaching role in his 11 years at the club.

Ankergen left to become head of goalkeeping at Brondby and has since had a stint on Graham Potter’s staff at West Ham.

The huge number of former Albion players, coaches and other employees who have found their way to Chelsea has long been a source of amusement.

While Ankergen and Rosenior did not make the move directly, they add to those ex-Albion ranks.

Roberts has remained in place with the Blues in turbulent times since moving from the Seagulls as part of the six-man deal which took Potter to Chelsea three-and-a-half years ago.

He has continued to work with former Albion No.1 Robert Sanchez as well as Filip Jorgensen and Teddy Sharman-Lowe.

Chelsea play Albion at the Amex in late April.
