A popular former Saints cornerback is told he will be cut by his new team

Just 16 months after being traded, former New Orleans Saints star cornerback Marshon Lattimore has been told he will be cut by the Washington Commanders, according to a Monday afternoon report.

“Commanders have informed former Pro-Bowl CB Marshon Lattimore that they intend to release him before the new league year begins,” ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported, “a move that will save the team $18.5 million in salary cap space, per sources.”

The Saints traded Lattimore and a fifth-round draft pick to Washington before the trade deadline during the 2024 season and in return received third-, fourth- and sixth-round picks in the 2025 draft.

Lattimore finished the 2025 season with 16 solo tackles, one interception and seven pass deflections in nine games. The veteran secondary star tore his ACL in November 2025 against the Seattle Seahawks.

In January, Lattimore got arrested on counts of carrying a concealed weapon and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle. He was initially stopped for riding around with an expired license plate. Lattimore was also arrested in March 2021 and eventually pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon. The misdemeanor resulted in a one-year probation and a suspended 180-day jail sentence.

Lattimore, who turns 30 in May, was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He made four Pro Bowls while in New Orleans.
