A.J. Brown has been engulfed in trade rumors over the last few weeks, and we now know what it could take to acquire him from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Though ESPN's Jeremy Fowler spoke to teams that believe the Eagles could trade Brown for a second-round pick, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer reports that the cost will be much higher than that.
Breer is hearing that Philadelphia wants a first-round pick and another top-100 selection for Brown. The package would have to be similar to what the Green Bay Packers got in return for Davante Adams from the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2022.
"The asking price, for now, is high. It sounds like the Eagles would want a first-round pick and another top-100 selection (similar to what the Packers got for Davante Adams in 2022), and that’s going to be too much for most, if not all, teams. Some of those teams, conversely, see Brown’s value as being closer to what the Bills got for Stefon Diggs from Houston in ’24 (a second-rounder, plus a Day 3 pick-swap that favored Buffalo)," Breer wrote.
When at his best, Brown is one of the most dynamic playmakers in football and can be a difference-maker in any offense. However, he's coming off two straight down years and comes with a lot of drama.
The Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, and Las Vegas Raiders could all be teams interested in Brown to fill their need at receiver, but it remains to be seen whether any would pay the Eagles' asking price.
New England and Las Vegas could be aggressive to add superstar playmakers to support their young quarterback, as Drake Maye is an ascending superstar for the Patriots, while the Raiders are widely expected to take Indiana signal-caller Fernando Mendoza with the top pick in April.
Buffalo and San Francisco could look to make a splash move this offseason by trading for Brown, but neither contender may be willing to give up draft capital.
We'll see whether Philadelphia even considers trading Brown, but if they do, we now know that their asking price is incredibly high.
