The Ravens have hired Dr. Nic Gill to be their new vice president of health and performance
The Baltimore Ravens have been one of the busiest teams in the NFL to start the offseason. After surprisingly firing John Harbaugh in the wake of their stunning Week 18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team quickly hired former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to come in and replace him as the team’s new head coach.
Minter has since begun working on filling out his coaching staff, and for the most part, he’s managed to assemble a solid-looking group that will aim to come in and help Baltimore return to the postseason after they failed to qualify for it in 2025. Moves are still being made in this department, though, as the Ravens recently turned to the world of rugby by bringing Dr. Nic Gill to town.

The Ravens are switching things up at pretty much every level of their organization this offseason. That includes their performance department, which saw Sam Rosengarten, their longtime director of high performance, leave Baltimore to join Harbaugh’s new team, the New York Giants.
Even with Minter taking over, it’s clear that the Ravens wanted to keep this department around. That led them to Gill, who is one of the most well-respected performance coaches in the world. Gill has spent the past 18 years working with the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team, with his most recent role seeing him as the head of health and performance.
While there are similarities to football and rugby, this is a big leap for Gill, who has not worked in the NFL at all throughout his career. However, his work in New Zealand caught the attention of Baltimore, and it has hired him to join Minter’s staff as its new vice president of health and performance.
“We have hired Dr. Nic Gill as our VP of health and performance, to lead integrated efforts across the strength and conditioning, medical, nutrition and sports science teams to optimize player health and performance,” the Ravens announced in a post on X.
Ravens Shift Attention to Free Agency

If all goes according to plan, Gill’s arrival could have a big impact on the Ravens. And yet, the makeup of Minter’s staff isn’t the only important thing the team has to worry about this offseason. Free agency is drawing near, and Baltimore has some big decisions to make, with perhaps the most important of the bunch revolving around star center Tyler Linderbaum’s future.
A new coaching staff could be just what the Ravens need, but truthfully, the construction of the team’s roster is easily the most important aspect of the offseason. Baltimore needs to add some more firepower on offense, while also looking to fill out the defense with some more top-end talent. If they can’t do that, then the additions of Gill and several other noteworthy coaches likely won’t end up being as important as they appear to be right now.
