Liverpool recently received an update on the fitness of January signing Jeremy Jacquet. The Reds agreed a £60m deal, including add-ons, during the winter window, with the defender set to join from Rennes in the summer.

However, the 20-year-old suffered a shoulder injury on February 7 during Rennes’ 3-0 Ligue 1 defeat to Lens, described as “serious” by then manager Habib Beye.

“We’ll have time to see, but it’s definitely quite serious for both of them,” Beye informed reporters at the time. “For Jeremy, it’s his shoulder, and for Abdelhamid [Ait Boudlal] it’s muscular.”

New Rennes boss Franck Haise ruled Jeremy Jacquet out of last weekend’s clash with Toulouse, raising concerns over his short-term recovery timeline.

“I don’t know exactly yet, he (Jacquet) is receiving treatment and rehabilitation, that’s where we are at the moment, he’s working in the gym,” Haise said on Thursday via L’Equipe.

At Rennes, Jeremy Jacquet has mainly operated in a back three this season. As an 18-year-old seeking more minutes, he was loaned to Clermont Foot in Ligue 2, but was recalled in January 2025 after half a season and has since made 37 Ligue 1 appearances.

Jacquet has racked up 21 appearances in all competitions this term. According to Ouest-France,Jacquet is set to undergo surgery after suffering a serious left shoulder dislocation. The report adds that it is highly unlikely that Jacquet will feature again for Rennes before beginning the next chapter of his career on Merseyside with Liverpool.

Jacquet had been undergoing treatment and working in the gym, but pain tests on his shoulder were inconclusive, making surgery inevitable. Liverpool remained in close contact with both the player and Rennes, though the final decision was left to the French club and Jacquet himself.

This operation will sideline Jeremy Jacquet for several weeks, leaving his chances of returning before the season concludes on May 16 extremely slim.
