Gilbert Arenas Believes Jayson Tatum Isn't Pushed Enough As Face Of NBA

Former NBA guard Gilbert Arenas expressed frustration over Jayson Tatum's positioning in the league's marketing scheme during a podcast appearance on Derrick White's podcast White Noise. As Tatum nears a return from Achilles surgery, Arenas questioned the narrative around him.

"You have Boston media, which is a BIG media platform, and he’s not being pushed like I would hope," Arenas said. "He would be pushed right? So that means in the Olympics what happened would have never happened because he is the guy. He would be getting everything like they would be handing it to him."

Arenas highlighted Tatum's credentials as a champion and All-NBA talent, suggesting Boston's market should amplify his status more than it does as the league looks for personalities to build its brand around moving forward.

Tatum has sat out all of 2025-26 thus far recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in last year's playoffs against the New York Knicks.

In 2024-25, JT averaged 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists over 72 games, securing All-Star status and aiding Boston's return to the postseason.
