With the Denver Nuggets' entire starting five out due to injury, David Adelman will turn exclusively to his bench on Monday, January 5.
On Monday, March 2, the Denver Nuggets are set to pay a visit to the Utah Jazz.
Ahead of Monday’s action, the Nuggets made a roster move. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Nuggets are adding the veteran guard, Tyus Jones, to the roster.
via Shams Charania, ESPN: “Free agent guard Tyus Jones has agreed to sign with the Denver Nuggets, his agent Kevin Bradbury of LIFT Sports Management tells ESPN. A veteran point guard and ball handler to fill a need for the Nuggets’ backcourt.”
Jones, a 29-year-old veteran, entered the NBA in 2015. He was a first-round pick (24th overall) for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs moved Jones to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he started his career after a run in the NCAA at Duke.

Recently, Jones wrapped up a tenure with the Orlando Magic. Ahead of the NBA trade deadline in early February, the Magic traded Jones to the Dallas Mavericks.
Over the 2025 NBA offseason, Jones joined the Magic on a one-year deal. His salary was worth $7 million. After getting traded and eventually waived by the Mavs, he’s on pace to ink a minimum deal to join the Nuggets. He’ll likely hit free agency once again in 2026.
Considering the Mavericks aren’t in a position to compete for an NBA Championship, Jones decided to part ways with the struggling franchise in order to join a playoff contender. He appeared in eight games for the Mavs, picking up two starts, while averaging 16.6 minutes of action.

The veteran guard posted averages of 3.9 points and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 38% from the field.
When Jones was with the Magic, he appeared in 48 games, seeing the court for 15.7 minutes per game. He struggled with his shot in Florida, knocking down just 34% of his field goals, averaging 3.0 points per game, along with 2.4 assists per game.

Prior to eyeing Jones, the Nuggets were linked to his Mavs teammate, Khris Middleton. As the veteran forward landed in Dallas in the Anthony Davis deal, Middleton seemed like a prime candidate to get waived before joining a contender.
Although the idea of potentially joining the Nuggets or another team might’ve been intriguing, Middleton ultimately decided to stay put in Dallas. The Nuggets pivoted to Jones.
In Jones, the Nuggets pick up a guard with four years of playoff experience. All but one of his playoff runs were with the Memphis Grizzlies. His first was in 2018 with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jones played four seasons with the Timberwolves in total. He spent four more years with the Memphis Grizzlies and spent a season with the Washington Wizards and the Phoenix Suns.
Now, he joins the Nuggets, who are sitting fifth in the Western Conference heading into Monday’s action against the struggling Jazz. The 37-24 Nuggets tip off at 9 PM ET on Monday.
